TO THE BAT DEAD IN THE ATTIC
Thank you for the thirteen headless blue jays In the lovely Chinese puzzle box And the nest of rattlesnakes You charmed home from the park willow. Thanks for the darkness, The shade of a bitten plum. I keep it in a jar on the nineteenth floor ledge. Thank you for the seven hundred and six days And for burying the dog so tenderly in the lilac yard, But please, if you can help it, try not to touch my face And when you fly, as always, beside me, Try not to let your wingsnap match the rhythm of a heart.
BUTTERFLY EFFECT
Why do I travel through time? I know the never of you coming home. Why do I stumble around so late Bending the fabric of space, Stitching us together Into a hyacinth laced picture of picnic weather? Even in your arms, I was alone, But your inaudible lips in our kaleidoscopic bed, The incantation of your anti-voice soft as April rain light. I continue naming stars after you, In that alternate universe Where we keep expecting Some technologically advanced outcome, Exchanging the same antique curses of love. Please explain what the chaos theory is about, How a butterfly's wing can affect the weather, And what is the importance of these variant worlds Where we are not together? You inside me, Your voice, the silence and softness of april rain light, It's all I can predict, Remember.
